Free-motion embroidery is a little bit like drawing with your sewing machine; the normal constraints are removed, leaving you free to move your fabric around and make all sorts of wonderful patterns. A liberating experience for seasoned sewers, and bags of fun for everyone, regardless of your sewing experience!
In this workshop, sewing expert Cassandra Belanger will be showing you how to decorate a festive card with appliqué and free-motion embroidery techniques. Students will then turn their hand to making festive free-motion motifs. These can be used to make cards, as tree decorations, or as part of a gift. And who knows, once you start using free-motion embroidery techniques, you may just decide to go home and make all your festive gifts this way!
The setting for this course is the relaxing, social atmosphere of The Stitchery Studio as part of The Stitchery’s Festive Open Studio weekend. Visit our studio, try out a sewing taster session and browse the fabrics and finds from our creative friends and neighbours.
Skill Level
This is a Pure Beginner level course, which means it’s suitable for absolute beginners, or anyone who wants to learn a new technique. The Stitchery studio comes fully equipped with a sewing machine for each student (you are welcome to bring your own if you like!).
