Kurinuki Workshop

Learn to make Kurinuki pots at this one day workshop.

Saturday 8 November, 10am – 3.30pm

Join tutor Kevin Morris and learn Kurinuki, a Japanese pottery technique where solid pieces of clay are shaped and hollowed out by carving.

Book here.

Kurinuki is a form of hand building which originates in Japan. Kurinuki  or ‘Carving out’ involves using a block of clay and carving the exterior form and hollowing out the interior searching for a form. Kurinuki is an instinctual and sculptural way of working with clay to make functional ware, allowing the form to evolve and reveal its self during the making process. Over the session you will be able to make two pots finishing with coloured slips.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and is also great for those who have tried ceramics but would like to learn a new skill. The cost of the session includes tuition, materials and firings. Tea and Coffee available but please bring a packed lunch.
